Rare Earth Element and Incompatible Trace Element Abundances in Emeralds Reveal Their Formation Environments
نویسندگان
چکیده
Emeralds require the unusual association of typically compatible elements (Cr, V), with incompatible Be to form, and occur in complex tectonic settings associated sediments (type IIB; Colombia) or, more commonly, magmatism regional metamorphism (IA). Precise rare earth element (REE) trace abundances are reported for a global suite emeralds, enabling identification environments which they formed. Type IIB emeralds have nearly flat continental crust normalized REE patterns (La/YbCC = ~2), consistent sedimentary source origin. IA emerald upturns heavy ~0.3), feature also shared South African occurring Archaean host rocks. Modeling type compositions indicates that form from magmatic fluids (S)-type granite melts interacting Cr, V-rich mafic–ultramafic crustal protoliths. This geochemical signature links formation suture zones. Diamonds, rubies, sapphires been considered as ‘plate gemstones’ based on mineral inclusions within them, or associations plate indicators. distinct gemstones, recording evidence origin their structure, indicating processes led deposit since at least Archaean.

متن کاملCalcium isotopic ratios and rare earth element abundances in refractory inclusions from the Allende CV3 chondrite
Refractory inclusions in primitive meteorites are the oldest objects formed in the Solar System. They exhibit large massdependent isotopic effects in many elements, including Si, Mg and Ca, indicative of their complex origin. We report data for both mass-dependent (d) and mass-independent (e) Ca isotopic effects, and rare earth element (REE) abundances in six refractory inclusions from the Alle...
متن کاملOverland Flow Using Rare Earth Element
14 15 Rare earth element oxides (REOs) have excellent potential for use as tracers in 16 erosion studies. Using laboratory and field experiments we aimed to develop and test 17 a simple application method for spreading REOs and to use REOs to determine the 18 source of sediment to concentrated overland flow paths. 19 Tracks left by farm machinery (tramlines) in fields act as concentrated flow 2...
متن کاملTrace element abundances of high - MgO glasses from Kilauea
We performed an ion-microprobe study of eleven high-MgO (6.7±14.8 wt%) tholeiite glasses from the Hawaiian volcanoes Kilauea, Mauna Loa and Ha-leakala. We determined the rare earth (RE), high ®eld strength, and other selected trace element abundances of these glasses, and used the data to establish their relationship to typical Hawaiian shield tholeiite and to infer characteristics of their sou...
متن کاملPrimordial light element abundances
After few minutes the Universe evolved through conditions of temperature and density which permitted the first synthesis of astrophysically interesting abundances of D, He, He and Li. The relic abundances are sensitive probes of the nucleon density and so are the CMB acoustic oscillations, somewhat 400000 years later, which allow a stringent cross check. The CMB high precision estimate of the b...
